CES2019｜“A single cable” realizes in- car high-speed interconnection

As a founding member of the HDBaseT Alliance, the chip supplier of Valens in Israeli also participated in the event to showcase its in-vehicle digital connectivity solution. CE magazine reporter had the opportunity to interview the head of Valens’s exhibition, unveiling the mysterious veil of this cutting-edge technology.
Valens is the inventor of HDBaseT technology and a leading supplier of semiconductor products for the delivery of ultra-high-definition multimedia content ,such as audio and video (AV), automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. Valens showed reporters how HDBaseT technology can be applied in a complex environment.
Traditional car doors, including the lifting of windows, the switch control of door locks, etc., require a lot of cables, but HDBaseT technology only needs to complete this related function through a magical “one cable” to realize the technology of door connection. At the same time, PCIe was extended to 15 meters and they give a solution that was proposed for high-speed video connections, which means that transmitted signals up to 16G and uncompressed.

During the interview, the reporter learned that HDBaseT automotive technology also has cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities, with self-diagnosis and monitoring functions. Take the physical line segment as an example. Once the cable has performance degradation, it can be displayed in the system,and send Automatically transmit warning information to the background, keeping track of relevant dynamics before an abnormal situation occurs. At the exhibition, Valens also demonstrated the application of 5G technology to the car entertainment system to achieve multi-audio independent playback, which brings us a better entertainment experience.

Valens revealed to CE magazine that Mercedes-Benz will use the technology in car development in 2020, and Chinese automakers are currently negotiating. In addition to automotive companies, well-known domestic companies such as Huawei, ZTE, and Hikvision have integrated this technology into their products. HDBaseT technology will also work with leading institutions in more industries to promote the healthy development of the industry ecosystem.
Valens said that the prospects for the Chinese mainland are very promising, and there will be a good layout and planning in mainland China in the future. On the one hand, it will strengthen cooperation with China’s heavyweight companies in related fields, strengthen deeper and more comprehensive expansion with existing companies, and enable more Chinese brands to use HDBaseT technology. On the other hand, strengthen the basic promotion and popularization of HDBaseT technology in China. At present, publicity lectures have been held in many cities in China, and finally consumers can understand and recognize the leading and superiority of HDBaseT. I’d love to see a follow-up post on how this integrates with social signals. We feel there’s a multiplier effect there that isn’t being fully utilized.
This is a solid breakdown. One thing I’d add is that the impact of these updates often lags by 2-3 weeks. We tracked this across multiple projects and found the recovery phase is where most people give up too early.
